EDUCATION
We believe that everyone deserves an education, regardless of their background or wealth. The amount of wasted potential in Ethiopia is tragic – indeed only 19% of girls and 31% of boys enrol into secondary school. Poor education is an underlying cause of many of the problems being faced in Ethiopia today and it is vital that we address this issue.
Ethiopiaid supports education projects at every level, from basic education through vocational training to degree and postgraduate level qualifications. We envisage a country where everybody's potential is fostered and progress has no limits – your support can help us to achieve this goal.
Hope Enterprises
Ethiopiaid has been supporting Hope's work providing education for all at all levels since 1994. In 2000, Ethiopiaid and Hope established a daily Street Children's Breakfast to encourage attendance to free schooling provided after each meal.
Hope University College
In 2006, Ethiopiaid donated £1 million for the construction of a new University in Addis Ababa to train and develop Ethiopia's next generation of leaders.
Addis Ababa University
AAU is one of Ethiopia's most respected Universities and has been supported by Ethiopiaid since the year 2000. Most recently, we funded a new computer laboratory to enable the students to connect to a wider world of learning.
Addis Development Vision
Disability is still highly stigmatised in Ethiopia and is often perceived as a curse from God. ADV is working to overcome this through raising community awareness and integrating disabled and able-bodied children in education.
Focus on Children at Risk
This project provides schooling to some of the poorest children in Ethiopia who would otherwise be unable to access education.
"Filega" – Radio Drama
Working with the BBC World Service Trust, Ethiopiaid has recently funded an educational radio drama which addresses social issues in Ethiopia. The series was produced and performed by Ethiopians and plans for a second series are underway.
We also support projects which focus on health and poverty reduction initiatives. For more information, please click on the links below.
